Caylee Anthony Update

It's been quite some time since I blogged on this subject. There simply wasn't much news about the case, and I was busy preparing for the birth of our son.

Finally, on December 11th, the announcement came that the remains of a small child had been found in close proximity to the Anthony home. This announcement didn't jar me. I totally expected it and knew it was merely a matter of time. I knew it was Caylee--who else would it be?--and waited patiently for the DNA evidence to confirm what everyone already knew.
However, when Dr. G finally made the announcement this past Friday, I burst into tears; partly because it looked like Dr. G was choking back tears herself, partly because my new mommy hormones were still settling, but mostly out of sadness for a beautiful little girl who didn't deserve whatever horrible things happened to her to cause her death. Somehow the finding of her remains rendered her far more real to me than the phantom missing girl in the photos and video clips I'd been seeing for months.

I've only been a mommy a little more than 2 weeks now, but I can't possibly comprehend how anyone could do such a thing to her own child. I know there are those of you who still may doubt whether Casey is responsible or whether Caylee's death was an accident or murder, but give me a break, please. She was buried in a location her mother used as a fucking pet cemetery and, from the sound of things, wasn't even buried with the same care as the pets had been. Bottom line: the little girl died in such a way that her mother felt compelled to cover it up and dispose of her body. This boils down to gross neglect at the very least, and murder at the very worst. The fact that the grandparents have requested immunity (still waiting to hear whether this has been granted) implies some manner of wrongdoing on their parts--even if only obstruction of justice.

I can only hope that everyone involved in Caylee's death and the ensuing cover-up are held accountable for their deeds and sentenced accordingly. In a snippet from one of Casey Anthony's prison phone calls she says that her "gut feeling" is that Caylee is "OK and close to home." At least that last part was truthful.

Ooh, it just gets juicier and juicier. I was becoming frustrated at the media lull regarding the Casey Anthony Case. I admit I was suffering some sick form of withdrawal. I turned my full focus to the presidential election and then...

The shit hit the fan today!!!! Woohoo! A secret grand jury (at which her own father testified against her) indicted her on multiple charges including first degree murder in the death of her daughter. Her lawyer had previously mentioned that they would ask the grand jury to allow her to continue searching privately for Caylee (ie, with no police presence). I saw no mention of this request in the original CNN article, so it was either denied or the defense decided to withhold it.

As if that weren't enough, after her attorney, Jose Baez, assured the press that Casey "was not running from this," SHE RAN FROM IT!!!! The stink just gets stinkier, gentle readers!!

"She's not running from this," attorney Jose Baez said as his 22-year-old client wiped tears from her eyes during an impromptu media briefing before the charges against her were announced. "She's doing her best to stand strong, to stand up to the powers that are working against her. And they threw the kitchen sink at her a long time ago."

After the indictment, undercover officers followed Anthony as she traveled in her mother's SUV. The officers saw the SUV stop under a highway overpass, at which point Anthony got into another vehicle and drove off. Officers made the traffic stop after she entered the second vehicle, the spokesman said.

Prosecutors are asking Anthony be held without bond.

Prosecutors asked for her to be held without bond before she tried to pull a Scott Peterson. Tell him she's not a flight risk NOW, Baez!! :)

I Feel The Love

It's nice to know so many people out there are as interested in the Caylee Anthony case as I am. It really is one of the most fascinating cases in recent memory. I don't think I've been this engrossed in a case's outcome since Laci Peterson or Chandra Levy.

I've gotten 38 hits in the past 3 hours from people searching for updates on the case. That's amazing. I got a slew of hits earlier on today, too.

One visitor from Fletcher, NC happened upon my blog by searching "Casey Anthony is a piece of shit." That cracked me up! Thanks for the laugh. Hope you come back soon.

Once again I say that the media is not villainizing Casey Anthony, they're simply reporting the facts. The statements in this video were taken from actual court documents. You can judge for yourself how appropriate her statements and actions were in the days following Caylee's disappearance.

I still haven't figured out how to embed videos from CNN directly into my posts. Any advice?

Protesters put the pressure on Caylee's family

This article presents me with a moral dilemma. I don't think private citizens should be harassed in their own homes, even if they are suspected of committing a crime or acting as an accessory after the fact.

On the other hand, this case stinks to high heaven. The mother, Casey Anthony, has been uncooperative from the start, not reporting Caylee missing for an entire month and fabricating things out of whole cloth (the non-existent babysitter and co-workers for example). The grandmother, who earlier referred to her daughter as a "sociopath" and told police that the trunk of Casey's car smelled like it had a dead person in it, now suddenly believes she's innocent.

If I'm honest with myself, I kinda love the protesters. I think most folks following this case are outraged at Casey's refusal to cooperate with police. Who wouldn't be? What mother who wasn't involved in her daughter's death or disappearance would intentionally withhold information and lie to the police? The media isn't villainizing Casey Anthony. She simply is a villain.

As such, I think the protesters serve a noble purpose by keeping the pressure on the Anthony family to disclose everything they know and by reminding them of their less-than favored status in the public opinion. This job would normally fall to the police or Feds, but they don't seem to be up to the task. If the coppers can crack hardened criminals and draw confessions out of them, why the hell can't they get the job done with a 22 y/o single mom? She should be a piece of cake!

Apparently Dr. Phil disagrees with me on this topic, but he's just a fat media whore and I couldn't give a shit what he thinks.
